19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hard surfaces
A comeback Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with a win over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.
The Russian, a former top-ranked player, has endured a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the Grand Slams and suffering a setback at the American major.
His unpredictability on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and ultimately parting ways with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.
Now training with Johansson and his other coach, he has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - culminating in a tightly fought three-set win over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hard court from that period of the previous year.
The win also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one various events.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," commented world number 14 Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.
His counter-punching approach and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to doubt if his ability to play at the top level was over.
However the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.
Medvedev came back from a deficit in the initial set against the challenging opponent, securing 4 of the final five games to take the lead.
Both players traded service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, attempting for his initial professional victory, seized the initiative to create a final set.
He defended four early-game break points in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.
Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet incapable to control a return after over two and a half hours.
